Adelina Sotnikova (Russia), who caused a stir with her remarks about the ‘doping suspicion’, will not be reinvestigated.
On the 7th, the Korea Sports Council announced that it had sent a reply to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the question of Sotnikova doping related to the question of ‘re-investigation is impossible’.
The IOC reported that Sotnikova’s A-sample doping test came back negative in 2014, and that it did not find any problem with Sotnikova’s doping rule violation in the 2017 test of Russian athletes.
In 2014, the Sports Association raised a problem with the fact that Sotnikova tested positive for Sample A. However, the IOC stated that this sample came out negative and insisted that reinvestigation is difficult.
Sotnikova won the gold medal in women’s singles figure skating at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics by a poor decision. Controversy has continued since then, and last month, she appeared on a Russian YouTube broadcast and said, “In 2014, when the Sochi Winter Olympics were held, sample A for doping test was positive, so I had to undergo a second test (about sample B).” It caused a stir.
In response, the Korea Sports Council and the Korea Anti-Doping Agency (KADA) raised a problem with the positive A sample test and requested a reinvestigation to the IOC.
However, as the IOC judged that there was no problem with the A sample during the first inspection, it became impossible to strip Sotnikova of the gold medal.
As the doping problem around her spread, Sotnikova claimed on personal social media that “there were scratches on doping samples during the Sochi Olympics and they found them,” adding, “All kinds of distorted information gives reason to criticize Russian athletes. Sotnikova, who retorted, insisted, “Why are you inflating it? The international doping system, then (2014) and now, has no questions for me.”
“No one can take anything important away from me,” he said, raising his voice.
In a recent SNS account, Sotnikova posed against the background of a picture of her gold medal at the Sochi Olympics, strongly appealing that she was an Olympic gold medalist.
